Diva Award presented to Yvonne Brooks at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club March 9th, 2011 (Presented by Susan Smith)
Tonight’s recipient is Yvonne Brooks – the Owner of Country Seat Upholstery Studio in Wallacetown, Ontario – a business that she has operated for over 19 years. With prior career experience in the textile industry in Toronto, Yvonne translated this into a successful upholstery business covering a wide range of projects from contemporary furniture, antiques, boats, trailers, tractors to whatever else comes her way. She is also a distributor for Magnetic Laundry Systems. She approaches her businesses with a positive attitude and organized approach and has an upbeat, warm personality.
Yvonne is one of the original members of the EBWN established in the summer of 1997 in the rural west. She has always been an active participant in the network, showing up to almost all meetings and most often with a wonderful upholstered cushion as a gift for the prize draw. Yvonne has often co-ordinated and facilitated events in the west and can always be counted on for assistance and support.
Yvonne also gives back to her community and beyond. She is a Director with the Dutton/Dunwich Chamber of Commerce and was actively involved in the Cactus, Cattle and Cowboy Festival in West Lorne. A local source noted that Yvonne volunteers for everything and is always there to help organize and make sure that things run smoothly. She has worked continuously over the years to raise money to empower women and promote sustainable businesses in El Salvador through SalvAide, a cause which the EBWN supports due to Yvonne’s efforts.
Because of Yvonne’s longstanding, exceptional commitment to the EBWN, her business acumen, positive and welcoming personality, and selfless support for local volunteer activities and international fundraising, the members of the EBWN Committee are proud to present the Business Diva Award to Yvonne.
